Gradient and Font Awesome Update
July 4th, 2016
In an attempt to make the site function faster all around, we've decided to go the route of HTML gradients instead of image gradients; they're a little harder to work with, but the result pays off with not having to load additional images.
The caveat is that, since they're harder to work with, the color scheme had to be slightly updated to work with them.
We also added support for the Font Awesome (an icon set font) for generating all of the little icons on the site which where previously …

Linux System Progress
June 2nd, 2016
I'm happy to announce that I just put the finishing touches on the initial draw-up of the Linux section here at UGN Security. The control panel took a little longer to work out the logic, but now that it's out of the way staff can manage the entries without diving into the database, and users can submit items from the main site.
Now, what'll need to be done first, will be to edit every entry and insert a proper description for all pages; and the Command listing will need extended entries and…

Captcha System
May 29th, 2016
This week (May 29th, 2006) we're preforming maintenance to the Recaptcha subsystems on the site; this means that all submission and contact pages are currently not working (you'll be unable to submit content as the return value from the server will always be invalid). We'll update the listing below as items are ported. We're planning for the maintenance to be completed by the end of the week, but it may take a little longer for some systems.

Linux Section Progress
May 16th, 2016
The Linux section has had it's last public page modifications done today and should be operating as intended. All of the data supplied is from the GoNix Initiative website, which will be decommissioned soon (see the previous update here).
It took quite a while to figure out how to make the systems work, as it's combining 4 sets of data into one large system (as opposed to one set of data like our standard site systems). Plus getting all of the JavaScript, RSS, SiteMap, XML Syndication Pages,…

The GoNix Initiative - Decommissioned
May 10th, 2016
It is with a heavy heart that I formally announce that our child project The GoNix Initiative is now decommissioned.
We created this project in May of 2009 to help demystify Linux for new users. Where the project started off strong, and with heavy initial interest, it never took off as planned; with an average monthly unique user count of ~100 users.
However, I have worked a long set of hours over the last couple of weeks planning, inserting data, and coding, to ensure that all content is …

Gallery Restoration & General Updates
April 18th, 2016
After reworking the Facebook PHP API to the Facebook JavaScript API, the Gallery has been restored; it still pulls and functions in much the same way, but will be quicker and will actually work (it's been broken for some time).
Also, the Lightbox and PHPMailer scripts have been updated to the latest builds available.

Rollout
October 11th, 2015
The UGN Security v6 rollout has begun; as a part of this new code rollout the site is permanently loaded over SSL for user privacy.
System checks will take a few days to check out, but we're monitoring the web logs and will fix items accordingly as needed. If you spot anything out of place (other than the new home for existing content) please feel free to post here as a response to this blog posting.
I have also just submitted the new URLs/SiteMaps to Google and Bing, it'll take a few mon…

UGN Security v6 (New Code, New Design!)
October 5th, 2015
Well then, it's been quite a while since the site joined the ranks of crickets and everything got pretty stale for a while; I have spent an extensive amount of time on the site backend and decided that, since we're basically relaunching everything that a new design was in order.
Instead of something drab and dark, we decided to go with something bright and professional, with the idea of standardization, mobile, section 508, and ease of use in mind.
The new systems even allow you, the users…
