I'm sending a mailing out to all board members this afternoon (specifically those who haven't posted in a while, if ever). The purpose of this email is to validate working email addresses of user accounts (which must be valid).

If your email account is invalid your BBS username will be disabled until you either email me through the contact us page or talk to me on the IRC. The other admin's are instructed not to deal with user accounts on this matter.

If you wish to not get mailings from the bulletin board, you may turn the option off in your profile. Please note however that if you do disable this option you will not get site notices on other issues (downtime, new sections of the site, etc).

To get your account re-instated we REQUIRE a working email address on your account. We will generate a new password on your account and update your email address so that you can request a new password after you contact us.

Note that banned accounts will be purged after 2 months of no response. We take the lack of response that you don't wish to be here and we will be removing your information to save on server space.

After the initial return of messages, another 20 came in. People, there is a reason that the system sais we require emails, if you make one up like i@own.you or always@bored.com you won't be able to get on the board.

After we've banned all accounts with non-working email addresses, we'll be removing all of them with a 0 post count as there is no point of having them if theil never work.

In fact, I may even make a list of which were purged when it's finished.

Ok, we're only suspending accounts that the email bounced back from; if you got it we don't care! lol... If you didn't get it we do care...

BTW, if your account gets suspended and you have <1 post your account won't be deleted. If your account gets suspended and you have >1 post it will be deleted.

I remember a few services I've used that had pop3 emails needed when registering. Meh but that's messed up to do.

shouldn't scare people when stuff liek this is done, it's obvious it's just for people that haven't posted when their account is getting old, and for those that registered with a fake email. Faking [censored] is easy enough to understand.
If your paranoid, use redirects to encrypted networks, or encryption. If someone care enough to go beyond that, then faking [censored] isn't gonna help, because they already know who you are:/ *watchs people look left to right real fast, and FREAK OUT*
