So I play with it for awhile, can't get it right, and I have my cousin come over. We mess with everything and then find out I put the rectangle cord from PS to mobo in backwards, even though it looks like it only goes in one way. So now we have power, that little red led was beautiful.
Now, it has power. You turn it on, fans come on, lights, everything except anything showing up on the monitor. He said maybe since I don't have a floppy, the BIOS is just whacking off. I know it is really hard to figure out what is wrong over the internet, but anyone got any ideas? The monitor works, tried it on another monitor and same thing.
EDIT Added: I hooked it up to a monitor and when I turned it on, the monitor went off. It did this before. Also, before I had the harddrive in this computer in set as master, and the other as slave since it is blank. Now it is just the blank one and it still does it.

See, when you turn on your PC it should do a memory check then a drive check, you should be able to see everything on your monitor.
Gimme some specs on the ish you're running. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 574 Likes: 1 UGN GFX Whore | UGN GFX Whore Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 574 Likes: 1 | Abit NF7-M nforce2 motherboard AMD Athlon XP 2400 40 gig 7200 Western Digital harddrive, not formatted or anything yet. 512 crucial pc2700 ddr ram
The motherboard has onboard geforce 4 mx and not sure about sound, not important though probably.
Tonight after work I am going to use this computer to install windows xp home on the blank 40 gig harddrive. It seems like it would have worked with this harddrive in it though. I have heard there is an update for the mobo I need to get or something, where otherwise it shits on you, but I don't think this is related since you couldn't get the update if it was this bad. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 815 nobody | nobody Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 815 | Does it beep when you start it? If it doesent even beep then it never even gets to the point of starting your BIOS. if it does count the number of beeps. Then look up in you mother board manual or BIOS manual the for what is wrong. 4 beeps could be the video card, etc. It has nothing to do with your floppy drive, the monitor should still work. Like gizmo was saying, every computer at least allows you to do a memory check with no OS installed. Make sure the jumpers are set correct and you dont have the onboard video disabled by accident. Thats all I can think of for now till i get more info from you. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 574 Likes: 1 UGN GFX Whore | UGN GFX Whore Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 574 Likes: 1 | I hooked the blank hd up to this computer, installed XP on it, and played with it a little. I don't care what I've heard, XP was alright for those ten minutes I used it. I put the harddrive back in the new computer, I turn it on...
I think I heard one beep, but it was more of a buzz. Definately only one if any. I can't find anything about it in the manual. I emailed ABIT from their technical support section of the site, but the lan party is tommorrow. I might have the best computer there, but won't be able to play. I think we could fix it there though, hopefully. I am not as pissed as I thought I would be, spending 900 bucks on a computer I can't use. I have tried discharging the cmos thing like it says, nothing changed. Any ideas about how i could enable onboard video if I disabled it? Nothing about it in the manual that i can find, and I can't do anything with BIOS since nothing shows up on the monitor. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,041 UGN Elite Poster | UGN Elite Poster Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,041 | Ok, so it's not posting. So strip it down to the bare essentials and work your way up. To get that machine to post all you NEED to have is a mobo, processor, ram, and a video card. Start with just that and turn it on. You should get at least a memory test and a beep for your hearing enjoyment. If it still won't post with just that then check to make sure your ram is in right, as well as the processor and video. Once you can get it to post with the essentials, start adding the rest of the hardware one piece at a time until it won't post anymore. Hopefully that will either eleiminate or identify where the problem lies. Just hope to heck you don't have some bizarre hardware conflict that only ever happens under the light of a full moon in odd numbered years to owners that are left-handed.

It was about 16 hours after I got here and the computer gets fixed. We messed with it on and off throughout the night, and then it starts booting fast (before it would halfboot, and really slowly) and then it went into setup for WinXP. I reinstalled xp on the hd and now it is all fine. W00t! I'm thinking of installing Slack on here again and then VMWare... | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,136 UGN Elite Poster | UGN Elite Poster Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,136 | Win2k is the way to go, if you must stick with windows. But I say get a Mac. I haven't booted my PC since I've gotten this thing...
