I have direct connected, via IM and opened DOS prompt: displayed his foreign IP and I now have tryed an "rbtstat (HIS IP)" and it shows my ISP name and my ISP IP and says "Host not found." Is there some sort of speciffic thing I must do? Should I be on my own internet? I am trying a remote hack. I have also ran a Port Scan on this IP address and it just displays all the port numbers and their services and says "Connection Timed Out" for each of the services. Any help with my DOS problem, any mistakes on what I have done, or some good programs... I have been awake for almost a full day looking up info and reading all of this Newbie BBS. Thanks guys.. | | |

Is your friend running a firewall? That would explain a lot of what you are describing.
And finally, what you are trying to do is crack, not hack.

And, does he have to be part of a network...? I guess what I am asking is if I gave you my IP and connected with you could you crack my computer. Thanks again Inf, help appreciated from anyone. | | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 217 Member | Member Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 217 | Your friend has to have file sharing enabled otherwise it will not work. you will know if he has it enable because when you do it, you will see the number <20> like that. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,041 UGN Elite Poster | UGN Elite Poster Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,041 | It could be blocked by the ISP, eg: Comcast doesn't allow any smb traffic on their network.

C:\> nbtstat -A 127.0.0.1
My ISP's Name (eg AOL): Node IP Address: [some IP] Scope ID [] Host Not Found.
Is there some way to configure my network neighborhood or something? I don't have a network... And also if I type nbtstat -n it shows my comp with <20> and such next to them. Damn My ISP! | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,041 UGN Elite Poster | UGN Elite Poster Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,041 | if that comes back with 'host not found' then he's not running windows filesharing (smb). find another way in.

Even if the person doesn't have filesharing enabled he should still get the table (by table i mean this) Name Type Status --------------------------------------------- GMVPS01 <00> UNIQUE Registered WORKGROUP <00> GROUP Registered GMVPS01 <03> UNIQUE Registered GMVPS01 <20> UNIQUE Registered WORKGROUP <1E> GROUP Registered
---------------------------------------------
but instead he wont see a <20>

Ok, I was right the first time. I didn't need to edit this post. If you turn off filesharing, and you turn off 'client for microsoft networks' then you will get 'host not found'.
And you are right too death. turning off filesharing will not eliminate that table. I kinda think of those two as the same thing, my bad.
