HI

I am a newbie but im not after people doing it all for me, I have managed to find software to scan a range of ips and ports and now I can connect to peoples pc, what I want to know it most of the machines I try to acces, I just get a user name and password box, you guys must have the same problems, how do i get round this, is there some software for it? also i do a scan for NetBios ports 137 and open port 20 is this the easiest way?

sorry if these seem basic questions but I am trying to teach myself rather than ask and let everyone do the work for me!

Here is a few things you can do.

Look for a default password list (dpl). Then when you have a banner or grabbed information via other means, you can look up the corresponding program/hardware and see if it has any passwords set.

Try some basic combinations that are popular. Maybe even use one of those very small wordlists. If possible, use the usernames that you obtained from the machine.

Try leaving it empty, sometimes it works.

I have located a full dpl. You mention about trying a small wordlist, what do you mean, is there some kind of software that you feed it a word list and it will hammer the password screen to try and sort of brute force the password??

Try accesing that port 20 post i have started for more refference. I think it's right below yours!!! There is a link there. RTFM and see if there is anything that could help you...
