We speak of the debt as a president takes us out of surplus spending and puts us back in deficit. He always increases large amounts of money to homeland defense and military. [censored] great, what a moron. The tax cuts will just be reversed later on, why waste the time and money.

jonathon.. do you honestly believe there was a surplus? i don't. we can never have a surplus. our national deficit is so great, that even if some certain agencies in the government ended up having extra money, it wouldn't count as a surplus.. it should be subtracted from the deficit. but.. that's just my opinion

fleshy, they say they have a surplus because they havent spent all the money that they borrowed yet.

what i dont understand is why people keep lending america money. dont they realize they're never going to get it back?

it's obvious why they keep lending us money. it's cause we CAN'T pay it back. So instead we make interest payments. They get a lot more money back for what they give us.

Like perhaps the other countries lend America money because America saved their sorry [censored] after WWII when, if it wasn't for America all the UE countries would speak russian, and would still be under comunism. And still let us not forget the Marshall plan witch pomped up a LOT of money to rebuilt Europe, and rebuild all the economy that was dead after the war.

well...im not sure why countries keep loaning us money...perhaps because we are the most 'powerful' country in the world? The only reason we will be [censored] in the future is because of crappy political leaders. Now however, the house and senate are both controlled by Republicans, so when they fail to stimulate the economy, no one will elect them again and hopefully we will get some politicians that actually care about this country. Then again...the 60% of this country that consists of hillbillies will probably vote for the same dumb-asses next time they abuse their right to vote

I just read what fleshwound said. One of Clinton's strengths is that he led us in our first surpluses since the 70's I believe. He was using those surpluses to pay off national debt - that really was his selling pitch in elections after all. The first year Bush was in office we stopped having surpluses. Course it may be said that it isn't his fault due to outside circumstances....

Before I was speaking cynically. Digital Geek's comment is very true. We've helped people out so frickin much that it would be a slap in the face if they didn't lend us money. Keep in mind that there are a lot of countries who are in debt to US.

SR, clinton didnt really have a surplus. this is from the second link i posted, about half way down the first page

During the 4-year period FY 1998-2001 politicians claimed a $557 billion surplus, yet total debt increased $438 billion in that period - - meaning the actual situation was nearly $1 trillion over-stated.

so clinton said we had a surplus, but it was apperently bullshit.

and SR, although a lot of countries do owe us money, we owe a hell of a lot more. 30 years ago we were the worlds largest lenders of money to other countries, now we are the largest debtors.

hmm, ohfuk, i think Clintons surplus was related to the government budget or something like that, not national debt. yeah, we may be the largest in debt, possible because we have the most money to spend? Or need the most money, rather. Most of that money probably goes to fund our policing the world tactics or helping other countries out. What are they gonna do? Send someone to break our legs? Doubt it, considering we'd probably stop sending them food and laugh at them while they try to farm out of the sand. smirk

EDIT: Also, we are one of the richest/most powerful countries in the world. We are a lot better off than most countires even though we have the most debt. Just thought I'd point it out.
Also, we give money to other countries a lot this day and age as well. Not just in WWII times. Why? Because all those poor Afrikan countries cant pay us back so we influence/control their entire country/government instead.
p.s. We also weren't in a virtual economic depression when Clinton was President, and we almost got Israeal and Palaestine to make up. So take that all you Clinton bashers. Would you rather have a pimp daddy or a trained monkey as president? Thats what I thought.

ok dashhocker, we apperently had a $557 billion surplus, yet total debt increased $438 billion in that period. so we had to borrow most of the surplus we apperently had. thus, polititions lied.

quote dash
Doubt it, considering we'd probably stop sending them food and laugh at them while they try to farm out of the sand. smirk

do you honestly believe that we're borrowing money from countries that are broke?

p.s. We also weren't in a virtual economic depression when Clinton was President, and we almost got Israeal and Palaestine to make up. So take that all you Clinton bashers. Would you rather have a pimp daddy or a trained monkey as president? Thats what I thought.

we arnt in a "virtual" economic depresion now. the point is, we will be.
so we were close with getting the middle east to make up? close only counts with horseshoes and handgranades...

and i wasnt bashing clinton, i was quoting a source that dissed the politicians from 1998-2001, clinton was in office from 92-'00. i wouldnt call him a pimp daddy...monica was ugly as [censored]...he being president, one would think he could do a little better. bush a trained monkey? monkeys can climb trees and are capible of controling complex monkey economics, i highly doubt bush can do the same, i sugest you stop insulting monkeys...

i said we were giving money to countries that are broke. we borrow money from countries like saudi arabia. which im sure we trade plenty of foodstuffs for the oil they give us, considering its kind of hard to farm out of the sand. which im just assuming *rolls eyes* most of the country consists of. we are in a 'virtual' economic depression. i say virtual, because no one will admit it. unemployment is the highest its ever been since the Great Depression. And yes, we will be in a REAL depression soon if this dumbass Republicans dont do something to stimulate the economy. "Yeah, we will blind all the people by giving them their $200 back, the must be a lot of money to all those lowly private citizens...har har har." < Apparently that strategy isnt working smirk
Your right, I should stop insulting monkeys...damn me. You honestly believe Monica is the only chick he banged while married? I doubt it. Considering half of the women in America tryed to make a sexual assualt case against him after Monica's story came out.

This is a wee bit off topic, but what do you guys think about the idea that the world's going to be switching to less diferentiated forms of currency? such as all the european countries switching to the Euro?

They were meaning to switch to the euro for years, they just finally did. A lot of prices were marked in Euro with no real euro lol...

As for a "Global Currency" its doubtful, untill everyone is upper class :x... Cash is differant dependant on your area, although the USD is about the same as a Euro so it woulnd't effect us much.

Euro? It works. Just look at this:
At the beginning, 1 euro was about 0.65$ ~ 0.70$. As you said, Gizmo, it has now reached the equivalence 1 euro ~ 1$

But EU is not only about money, it's also about politics and cultural exchanges. Even though it's not fully working yet, I think this will come with time...

No no, the Euro first started off at $1.15. That was a major point of the Euro. It would be a standard currency in Europe, but more importantly, be stronger than the dollar as far as buying value goes. It has since levelled off, and in fact now it fluctuates between $0.90 and $1.

As for what Gizmo said, that's entirely true. I lived in Italy for three years, and about two years before Euros came out, every store was marking its prices in Euros as well as lira.

ok.. i really didn't read any of this cuz i'm way too damn lazy. i just have to say something that pissed me off but made me laugh hysterically. over thanksgiving, my parents and i were watching the news. of course, they were talking about 9/11 (wow.. big [censored] surprise there!) and i casually mentioned that i was surprised this country didn't get attacked a lot sooner. seeing as how the US is the biggest known terrorist country on this earth. well.. my parents didn't appreciate that one too much i guess. they called me "un-american" they think i'm like.. some [censored] commie or something. it's like.. hello.. get it right! i'm a facist! muhahahaha.. j/k smile
but now i think my parents don't like me.. oh well.. as long as i get that sweet [censored] laptop for christmas.. who cares?

Countries never go bankrupt and never lose money... russia has [censored] loads of money, globs of it, but they are saving it for a resurgance. All companies are getting more and more powerful, equiling the power of countries... but we still have the flimsy legal system and morals which have kept things in check for a while... although the legal system needs to be reformed to slam the companies, and break them up and of course it should and can only be on a global scale... That global "slam" should happen in 40 years or so when a company decides to raise an army (companies already have their own police forces, bigger than most city police forces, armies are up and coming).
