I've never really had an opinion on the guy, but in everything I've read about him, I can't fault him. Despite being a communist and some of the bad baggage that comes with that, he's done some good things for his country. | | | | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 955 UGN Super Poster | UGN Super Poster Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 955 | being 100% serious... I love the guys sense of style. The clothes, the hair, the accessories.. the perfect.
If I didn't know better, I would think him queer. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 508 Likes: 1 UGN Super Poster | UGN Super Poster Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 508 Likes: 1 | he is the [censored] man, fidel is my hero

I wouldn't go as far as saying he has "won" anything besides his revolution, and repelling the "Bay of Pigs" invasion. Just the fact that he has clung to power this long is amazing! I mean the guy was beefing with JFK way back when!! Cuba is extemely impoverished, artists, musicians and intellectuals defect at every possible opportunity in order to be able to say and express what they want. I think the economy's primary focus agriculture and foreign tourism. The U.S. is partially at fault for keeping it under embargo for this long, I mean if we opened up travel restrictions and began some trade reletionships, Cuba might make a little more bread. They do have FREE UNIVERSITY EDUCATION as well as FREE HEALTHCARE and GUARANTEED HOUSING FOR ALL CITIZENS. Back to Fidel ... he's got guts. He gets my bad [censored] vote. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,273 DollarDNS Owner | DollarDNS Owner Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,273 | Thank you expatriate ghost. You managed to give in detail exactly what I meant with "Despite being a communist and some of the bad baggage that comes with that, he's done some good things for his country." I just couldn't remember what it was he did. | | | | Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 259 Member | Member Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 259 | i just respect him for giving america the finger and holding his ground. i didnt know bout the healthcare and all that.is university really free?

They do have a free medical school you can attend as an american citizen, but then you are required to come back here and work in the impoverished areas of the US for some time before you go on to an illustrious medical career and a penthouse apartment in midtown manhattan among us bourgeois pigs. Spending my childhood in a formerly socialist country (yugoslavia) and talking to my folks that went to school there, I can tell you that college was free as well as doctors. But as Mr. Rage says, theres some bad baggage that came along with that. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 508 Likes: 1 UGN Super Poster | UGN Super Poster Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 508 Likes: 1 | shouts go out to my boy fidel on his 77th birthday, keep it strong pimp.... | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 181 Member | Member Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 181 | Without freedom of speech, thought, and deed, even a paradise is still a prison, and castro is the warden.

If fidel is such damned hero, why are so many Cubans dying trying to get to america so that they can finally be free.

This means that they've reneged on a promise to return service to the country in return for this education. Kinda like going to West Point , then bailing from military service...... You don't usually see Black Cubans on those raft...........usually well educated whites........The blacks excel in government, and in sports. | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 181 Member | Member Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 181 | In reply to Jedi knight,
In cuba a person's skin color doesn't mean zip. If your not in castro's favored 10%, or the military, then your a prisoner like everyone else.

The Cuban revolution was a genuine social revolution, so more people would be at odds with the government. And those that flee ARE formerly rich or those who served in Batista's brutal government and their family members. For most Cubans, the Revolution has given them more than they ever could have come close to possibly getting under the American sponsored corporate-mafia dictatorship.
