Okay fist off sorry about the dumb post... as you can see I am a newbie here and my first post weren't really smart. I know being new is no exception for my stupidity.

I have read a lot of files on anarchy and I don't know what anarchy is anymore... is it just simple chaos and madness? Or is it a philosophy on freeing our suppressed selves in this bleak society? Or am I reading way to far into it? I know that all newbies can't just be spoon feed info and told what to do... but I really don't know what to do.

Maybe some of you seasoned veterans can help me out. What is anarchy really about? Havoc and mayhem? Or meaningful smile destruction ?

I am a newbie as well. Personally I think that there should be some kind of meaning, a purpose to the mayhem.

I am thinking back to the movie Fight Club (1999), there was a great deal of havoc. But there was a reason, a message that was trying to be announced to the world. Especially the last scene, if all the banks are destroyed, then there is no division of the social classes.

I see it as a way to make a public statement, just as others might protest in front of government offices; nuclear facilities; or oil refineries.

Yah, there should be some goal that all anarchists strive to achieve. Or maybe anarchy is just the goal of total public terror and vandilsim. i don't know it seems that any punk can run around and vandalize [censored], but it takes a dedicated person or persons to make a persice bomb and set it in a location to cause terror and mayhem.

Read political philosophy. Read books like 1984, Brave New World, Childhood's End, Animal Farm etc and make up your own mind about social/political utopias. Anarchy is a form of government where all unnecessary rule is abolished. Acording to the Webster's dictionary:
Anarchy: from Greek anarkhi, from anarkhos, without a ruler : an- without; arkhos- ruler; (without ruler) There's probably good anarchy links in this section in other threads so go look at them if you're really interested. Or better still look up on google "Political philosophy" or simply "Anarchy theory, concepts/whatever"

Well how do you go about trying to achieve this type of government in my local town. I was thinking of starting with my school cause I hate school. I tried blowing up an aerosol can but we tried it in the middle of a field where everyone could see... yah that was dumb we all got in [censored]. I guess i'm lucky we just moved in to a new school and our old school is right across the feild so we can wreck it.

"BUT UNREEL U JUST DONT GET IT LOL!!"

Die. I'm sick of all you little anarchy kids posting your bullshit about anarchy as some sort of utopia. The only reason you discuss anarchy is because you have the idea in your brain that you're special, and that you have it rough because you have to get up and go to school. There are no deep philosophical underpinnings to anarchy. Admit it and just drop the crap. All anarchy is is a bunch of ignorant suburban kids who think they can make a difference. Ever met a credible adult anarchist? Thought not. Grow up.

Actually I have a recommendation for you. Go to your local Barnes and Noble and pick up The Republic, by Plato. They've got a Classics series going on right now, and you can get it for 4 bucks. It's not about the Republic form of government, but really more about social contracts between a government and society. Plato explores what he would deem to be an ideal government, not a specific form, but the people involved in the government. He wrote this when he founded an Academy in Athens, the purpose of which was to develop philosopher statesmen. This is when he was fairly young, in his early 20s. When you're finished with that, read Laws, which was his final work. It's essentially a reexamination of the Republic, the flaws in his ideas, and how best to improve upon them.

Read those two works and you will understand another way of thinking regarding the relationship between society and government. You may not agree with any or all of the views, but having an understanding of multiple views allows you to better analyze information, solidify, and improve upon your own views.

A society without the oppression of a governing body is called a dictatorship. The governing person or body has ultimate power, his word is law. "Before I do anything I wanna get all the information that I ca..." What the hell do you want to do anyway? Blow up some bottles in your back yard? That's not gonna do [censored] but get your neighbors pissed off at you. Got news for ya... The form of government we have is gonna be around for quite a while. The only way to get rid of it is blow up every single government building and kill every person involved in goverment. That leaves you, ohfuk, and a bunch of sheep left.

Actually, there IS philosophy on anarchy. I've read lots of it. Not suprisingly, a lot of it is about how anarchy DOESN'T work as a successful, functioning government, but is only successful in poetry. But you wouldn't know about such literature because you think that ...

This is where your wrong. Anarchy has been around a lot longer than bored, pissed off suburban kids. Just because said people happened to be interested in it, doesn't mean it makes up all anarchist worldwide. Open your mind. If this [censored] bothers you so much why don't you stay out of the discussion. Let the "ignorant" people carry on their thoughts of the subject without your crued pointless criticism. Not to be disrespectful, but this IS the [censored] anarchy section of the board. What else should we talk about?

Just as everybody here is free to express their views on anarchy, unreal's free to tell you all he thinks it's a bunch of horseshit. I think, as somebody pointed out earlier, that the anarchy referenced in the forum name isn't the same as the political philosophy. I'm not so sure it even belongs around here anyway, but I can kind of understand when it deals with mischief or deviant (different from normal) fun. Wanna talk politics? Throw it in debate.

Since when do we have a debate forum? I just think it pointless for unreal to come in and start slaming on people who are interested in something. Granted they have the wrong idea about it, some don't even HAVE an idea about it. Regardless, they're just trying to broaden their knowledge, nothing wrong with that. The only problem is that people mistake anarchy for pointless criminal activity.

That is exactly what anarchy is. If you want to destroy [censored] and wreak mindless havok upon everything, your probably an anarchist, or a psychopath. They have a place for these people that want to oppose the rules, its called prison.

The dictionary calls it a Utopian Society with out rules, [censored] that. It also calls it disorder, that's more like it. All these people who think anarchy is some great society with no leaders where everyone is lives in harmony and everything is great has mistaken it for communism where everyone is equal and shares and blah blah blah. All the [censored] that will never happen because people are, greedy, jealous, envious, selfish, generally [censored] in the head... I'm sure you get the picture. I really dont give a [censored] about what someone wrote in a book a few hundred years ago when everyone was wrong about the world being flat.

I don't know about you, but my utoipia has order. Anarchy would deffinately NOT be utopian it would be more like hell; disorder, chaos, wide-spread panic. It would be a society with no repercutions for your actions. Now we live in a society of fear. We all live in fear. why didnt you kill that kid that made fun of you? Take that thing you wanted from the store? Fear of the rules. Fear of the repercutions.

Anyone who leads a lawless life is an anarchist. Everytime you step out of line you practice anarchy. Does this lifestyle lead to anywhere? Prison or early death. Does unreal doing whatever he wants fit under anarchy? Damn straight. Do bombs and people nearly blowing themselves up fit under anarchy? yeah. Is it gonna be funny laughing at the gimps missing fingers cause they blew them off? Hell yeah!

Thank you Asteos I simply want to broaden my knowledge of Anarchy.

I guess the thought of a Utoipia is something in which we will never achive, not just because people are greedy bastards, but also because every ones idea of a perfect "system" is different. My idea of perfect may be toatally different compared to yours.

Barcelona, Spain actully had a Utopia (kind of), from Anarchy around the 1920's, however that failed when it got close to WW2. "every ones idea of a perfect "system" is different." Very true Reaper.

So if knowledge is power, does that make hacking a form of anarchy? Or is it just in the category all its own? I have also explored the hacker philosophy and I like the idea of the freeing of information.

Anarchy = The absense of a government.

Yeah, it sounds like a good idea. There is no government but somehow everyone gets along and survives well. That's the Utopian view. No rules, but everyone is civil.

Realistically, it would never happen. People need leadership and rules, and people need to lead and make rules.

Yeah, it's also chaos. Nowadays it's used generally for when someone ignores the rules, since in effect there are none. A riot? Anarchy.

Kids breaking [censored] and deciding to wreck their school? Dumbasses.

Listen, a utopian society existing in anarchy would never work.
Blowing aerosal cans up in order to get rid of authority is pointless and stupid.
My advice is to forget about anarchy. Spend some more time reading books(I'd recommend Hobbes and Locke, in addition to Plato. May as well read Machiaveli, too.) Then, when you actually know something about the world and political philosphies, reexamine anarchy. Then you'll understand.

I repeat: All you want to do know is call yourself anarchist because it's 'cool' and 'counter-culture' and you like to cause trouble. [censored] childish and stupid.

And about the 'hacker philosophy:' [censored] it. Some people like to free information and code, some people like the thrill of hacking a server, some people like to program, some people like to cause trouble. The hacker society is unorganized and, for the most part, extremely diverse. There are loads of different definitions of what a hack er is, so until you can get a single definition for the word, [censored] anyone that spouts off about some philosophy.
Do what you enjoy and think is right.
You like the idea of free information. That is a good thing, many other people do. Learn more about computers, learn more about, well, a lot of things. Don't try and prescribe to some philosophy though, make your own god damn beliefs and ideas.

Heh, feel free to atack.

"Do what you enjoy." Now that sounds like a good plan. I do alot of things that I think are right... but that doesn't make it right does it. So the whole concept of right and wrong is really [censored]. What are you gonna say makes somthing right and wrong... the bible? [censored] that...
