I voted Bush because at least I can follow some of what he believes VS Kerry. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 419 UGN Member | UGN Member Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 419 | I actually voted for Kerry because I'm in the military. I know that people associate the Republicans with the military, but the truth is that most of the quality of life reforms for the military were passed into law and signed by Democratic presidents. Another reason is the Iraq war, I was there when it started, we were flying planes for 3 months straight off the deck, over turkey into Iraq to give spec forces close ground support, I have friends who have been there for a year, and friends from home who are reservists that are being shipped off with no actual date to return. The president has made this war so comfortable for the american people, by saying yeah we are at war but here is a tax cut, it has no effect on the day to day lives of americans, like WWII, not that it should, but if all americans were feeling even a little bit of it, maybe they wouldn't be so anxious to send young men and women off to die. Don't get me wrong, we all know we are fair game. We signed a contract and we make a paycheck, but in a country that places so much emphasis on the lives of unborn childeren, you would think they would respect the lifes of those who have already been born and ask that when we do get sent to fight, it's not because some guy tried to kill your dad.

I rember when I was getting out they were just starting to go into effect. When I got out a E-6 with wife and kid living off post (each means more money per pay check(some soldiers get married just to get more money)) was on WIC(women infants and children), was considered living below the poverty scale in the U.S.
Yes america sure love it's troops when it is time to celebrate a victory or when it is time to have a parade. But talk about raising taxes so they can feed thier families and everyone says screw the millitary.
Bush has tryed to pass some not so soldier freindly bills also. As a pay back for your self sacrifice the US gov will cut some of your benifits. /me shakes head
I got out in 2000. I don't know man, I kinda had a feeling. The U.S. has been in a major war every 20 years. Desert Storm I would not count as a major war. More a preview of the destruction a war could bring. We were over due. Now I didn't get out to avoid a war. I kind of whish I had gone to one. Just to see how I meassured up. If the traing stuck. But the funding for small things was being cut, couldn't get parts to re-pair our systems, budgets became tighter... I figured they could not afford to pay me better and not fix equipment.
So I got out. My advise. Get all the tech training you can, get a civillian job you love and do not look back. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 419 UGN Member | UGN Member Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 419 | I'm Already on that track brother. They wrote me up so many times toward the end. All for dumb [censored]. So I figured if you are going to get in trouble might as well earn it. I recomend showing up drunk A LOT. The chain of command loves a stagering soldier. Plus push-up become very funny. Also tell them you are planing on re-uping till the last minute.
Let your chain of command think you are waiting for the best assignment, bonus, whatever before you re-up. They will back off some then | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 419 UGN Member | UGN Member Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 419 | Once again I am already playing that game.
