Lawmakers in Colorado are considering a bill that would make it a misdemeanor to require a human to have a microchip implanted. The bill is seen as a move to head off the use of microchipping as a future big brother tactic.

The legislation, which was introduced by Rep. Mary Hodge, D-Brighton, has been the subject of much hilarity at the Capitol with emails concerning Terminator-style cyborgs and black helicopters circulating regarding the law.

Michael Sawyer, director for the Rangeview Library District who urged action on the issue, doesn't see the humour. He is worried that microchips could be abused by employers and government. Similar laws are proposed or in place in 17+ other states.
