The Chinese have destroyed one of their own aging satellites orbiting more than 530 miles from the Earth by using a ground based missile in a demonstration of their anti-satellite technology.

The US and others criticized China for the move. The US stopped blowing up its own satellites in the 1980s, partially due to the large orbiting debris clouds that resulted from the practice. The test also highlights the US's vulnerability to anti-satellite weapons.

"American satellites are the soft underbelly of our national security," said Rep. Edward Markey. Another remarked "The Chinese are telling the Pentagon that they don't own space."

Well it was bound to happen. Everyone is catching up with space technology now. I thinks it obvious America doesn't own space. The act was stupid and will probably speed up more technologies and interest in space.

I think it was very smart on the part of the Chinese. The USA needs an equal. We have over played our hand in the world and need someone to say "You are not that bad [censored]". Much military tech relys on tactical satellite link ups. This might just stop a war with China later. I was a very subtle way of letting us know we can be reached.
