I was looking at some motherboards, and noticed that some had support for 4GB of registered ddr sdram memory and 3GB unregistered ddr sdram. I was wondering the difference between this is?? Better performance possibly???

Well DDRAM was devloped because there was a huge need for faster and better memory data processing, see CPU speeds went through the roof and once they managed to get past the 1GHZ barrier a year or so ago I thinka little more even, they realized that SDRAM and EDO and all these other types of RAM were unable to process the data as fast as the processor would "handle" it.

Basically Registered DDR uses the Read command differently and only registers data upon request, its ideal memory for Servers and High end machines that need alot of ram very fast.

So registered is better.

I'm assuming it would since the better something is usually costs more. Another thing, what brand or maker of RAM is particularly better?? Thanks again.

PNY is a good brand. There are a few others that i have been told about but ive never used them or anything.

DDR does not cost more due to the fact that the machienes that make DDR were the same type of machienes that made SDRAM So DDR is pretty Cheap to find...

Well maybe not exactly cheap but compared to SDRAM it is not much off the same price, but once you get up to the 3 - 4 GB area it does get kinda pricy.....

nah... i built a p4 2.4 6gb ddr ram comp for my friend for around 1.5k$ and that was nothing. im currently looking at a motherboard for my new comp that supports 64gigs of ram, i just need a bit more money, 6.7k$ total.

I always have and always will recommend the brand "Kingstone Memory" the focus just on RAM and nothing else (last time I looked anyway) very good brand, never had any problems with any of their stuff!

yes, i like kingston as well, id recommend it or PNY or ive used samsung... it worked good as well but its not quite a top brand in memory i dont think, not sure
