Long duration exposure images, captured by the Hubble telescope, show what looks to be the edge of the big bang in what scientists believe is our deepest view of our universe to date.

The images show galaxies colliding with each other and reforming into strange shapes. The snapshot, named the Ultra Deep Field, show about 10,000 galaxies, coming together in what "looked like a train wreck."

The images captured light that had sped through space for over 13 billion years. Director of the Space Telescope Science Institute, Steven Beckwith, said: "We're seeing the youngest stars within a stone's throw of the beginning of the universe."

I still lack to see what makes them believe that it's the "edge of the big bang"... I mean I saw that photo a week ago and yeh it is impressive but what's the evidence that the big bang happened there and not the opposite side of the universe that hubble is going?

Well.. Actualy they can tell. So they say anyway. The big bang caused all mater to spread out right? Right! Well it is still spreading. So a long [censored] math formula, plot the distance of near by stars, planets, Galexies and you can pin point the direction the big bang took place. Once again, so they say.

I think it is neat that Bell labs was the first to hear the big bang. It is this background radiation in everything. Cool stuff.

In that case, wouldn't the place where there is NOTHING be where it begun? I mean, since where it threw the crap would have more, as where it was thrown from would have less... no?

Yes right now, however you have to rember what they are looking at happened billions of years ago. It just took the light that long to reach the hubbles feild of vision. Even light takes time to travle.

So where it is looking might be nothing, but we are seeing billions of years ago.
