While its servers were seized last January, the controversy hasn't gone away. Authorities took the servers of Voicenet Communications because people used their "QuikVue" search program to try to find and post child pornography.

The tool had promised "an all-you-can-eat taste of 'the Internet gone wild!'" and subscribers paid $10 a month. Subscribers were able to access Usenet newsgroup forums that many other ISPs block. Voicenet says its not responsible for Usenet posts.

A federal law states that ISPs do not suffer criminal liability when people use their systems for child porn without the company knowing. So far, criminal charges have not been filed against Voicenet. There is, however, an active criminal probe.
