British company StarBrite is selling software called the pPod which will make a Pocket PC's screen look like an iPod, with control buttons and a virtual scroll wheel. The software retails for $20 and may not last die to copyright infringement issues.

Unlike the iPod, the pPod does not support WMA files of Apple's AAC files. Only MP3 files are supported. Also, most Pocket PC's have about 64mb which can store about 12 songs. Users would need memory cards for significant storage capabilities.

The company's web site offers a free three day demo of the software. One product development director sees the pPod as "the new Linux" which people will want more versions of. Others see it as a cheap knockoff. Apple has yet to comment.
