Monster.com, an online job listing site is acknowledging the growing problem of fake job listings being used to gather personal information for the purposes of identity theft by sending e-mail to millions of online job hunters warning of the dangers.

The e-mail warns users that: "regrettably, from time to time, false job postings are listed online and used to illegally collect personal information from unsuspecting job seekers". This is in conjunction with existing warnings on Monsters site.

This is the first time any online job site has directly warned users of this growing problem, but Monster spokesperson says this is as yet "a very rare occurrence" and "We just want to be out in front of any potential problems".
