It is generated initially for you so that we can verify your email address and so that no one can sit and snoop the packet sicne you'd end up changing it in the first place. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,273 DollarDNS Owner | DollarDNS Owner Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,273 | and really, I leave the password as-is. I wouldn't change it. If somebody was to know stuff about you, or know passwords you've used on other sites or whatever, than there's a chance they can guess your password. If you use a weak password - there's a chance they could brute force your password. But if you just accept the password assigned to you, then no worries. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 119 Member | Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 119 | Nah SR I think that's when security gets too much. I how practical is that ? You'll never remember more than 3/4 passwords like that. What'll you do? Store it somewhere..... | | | | Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 6 Junior Member | Junior Member Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 6 | You'll learn your password trough the years, if you al least stay that long... | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,273 DollarDNS Owner | DollarDNS Owner Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,273 | Soap, shut up. It's because people didn't leave their passwords as-is that I was able to gain access to admin on this site back when beard had it - and some people's moderator accounts right now, heh, I'll let you chew on that one for a little while. And, I could've chose to brute force the accounts but I didn't cause other people DID leave their passwords as-is. It would be a waste of my time.
Good freakin dillmuch, people must think I don't know what the heck I'm talking about. | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 730 UGN Supporter | UGN Supporter Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 730 | I use the same pw for basically everythign, but its not a easy to guess pw... i doubt any brute force could crack it tho.

Cause if anybody finds your password to just any ONE of those things (like if Gizmo takes a peek at your password right now) then they'd have access to EVERYTHING of yours. That includes email accounts and game accounts and other webboard accounts and your personal computer's password-protected stuff and anything else you may have password-protected.
Or just leave the password as-is and live a secure life. | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 730 UGN Supporter | UGN Supporter Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 730 | thats tru, i have to trust gizzy...hmmm, I dunno em well enough to do that so im just going to leave it.

You never know. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 119 Member | Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 119 | Sorry If I made ppl "think you didn't know what you were talking about" SR. I mean You really DO know what you are talking about, I mean psh...
k anyway. I'm sorry if it's so l33t-0 to have 2*Av%#$):^.,Kk as a password example for all your passworded protected [censored] but honeslty....how many of those are you going to remember? PEOPLE (not you SR :p ) WILL (after the 5th password let's say...) SAVE it down somehow somewhere.
As for twarting bruteforce, I belive it's a matter of using @ least 1 of each avaible characters sets (allowed different TYPESof characters) and making it long enought.
tal33st(WANKER) would be a sufficient passwordfor most "things" actually passworded (i didnt say EVERYTHING...) | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,273 DollarDNS Owner | DollarDNS Owner Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,273 | Well, I just don't delete the confirmation email I recieve that contains the password that's been assigned to me. PEOPLE (not you SR ) WILL (after the 5th password let's say...) SAVE it down somehow somewhere. Not so. I have a number of passwords, and they're mostly combinations of letters and numbers that are meaningless to others, and I remember them without writing them down. Well, I just don't delete the confirmation email I recieve that contains the password that's been assigned to me. I almost never need the password cause it's stored in a cookie anyway.
No fuss. Heh, Yahoo doesn't even need a password! | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 524 Member | Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 524 | heh, SR is so l33t. Dont question him! I really only have 3 passwords (2 for UGN, and 1 for email) that i even use. The 2 for UGN are the same. Its actually quite easy to remember ur pass if u use a combination of letters and numbers and special characters as a mnemonic. For instance, letters for words, connected with a char to a number, etc. Like the first letter of each word in a sentence plus '%' then like ur birthday year or something.
