C++ in high school but my teachers a [censored] so it sucks. according to learner, you need to know HTML, PHP, java script, and some other stuff to get a good web site going. get Microsoft certified and you (might) be able to get a well paying job. thats about all this fool(me) knows in this topic | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 71 Junior Member | Junior Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 71 | Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, Novell, linux, A+ and so on and so on... There is too many certifications to get for me to name them all right now, specially each individual one. I myself have a couple of Microsoft certifications and im gonna be takin one of the Cisco ones pretty soon. If you take AP comp sci in school and pass the test you wont get a certification or anything but you'll get credit for college. oh, and ohfuk, my comp sci teacher 0wnz your teacher and rapes him every night.

Yeah sure, it's the basics, but once you actually sit down and see what makes it up you'll see what I mean. I have never even heard of someone failing the exam for it. IMHO having an A+ doesn't really prove anything. Sure you know an ide cable from a printer cable, but that doesn't take a whole lotta skill. Do I have mine you ask??? Well, no. I would if I had the money to write the test, and yes I do want to get it. I'm just saying that just cause you have an A+ doesn't really mean you know [censored] about comps.
I'm working on my CCNA right now (Cisco Certified Network Associate for those who don't know). That cert looks promising in that the material it covers looks interesting and practical. I'm more looking forward to next year when I start on the CCNP. Now there is a cert to ph34r!!!

CCNA is the first step towards CCIE. YOu gota go through one to get to the other. And besides, CCIE is like 5 years worth of work, and at the end you gotta go to Cisco for their 2 day lab test. There's like 5 places in north america to get it done. One day hopefully... And your on CK. But I'll make this easy on ya. I'll have mine somewhere around the end of april/beginning of may 2003. Guaranteed. You have till then to beat me. I'm gonna write my test as soon as possible after he semester is over to help with finding a summer job. sum | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 Community Owner | Community Owner Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 | I'd go for a CCNA and a Server2 certification, possibly some linux administration and some oracle. Hell, IMHO an A+ is barely worth the paper you get from it. AS for the net+, personally I don't feel that it has a whole lot of revelevance either. I bought a net+ book not too long ago (on sale- $20) and it took me about 3 days to know the material it covered. It starts to get into some good stuff, but it never really goes too deep into anything.
But as I said above, I would like to have both of them because I feel having any cert under your belt is better than having nothing. All I'm saying is that they are extremely easy, and don't really teach you anything difficult at all. The tools that you will aquire is nothing more than the basic knowledge that any IT worker is just expected to know.

If you want info on testing, books, etc email me [email protected] a long time ago in March I wrote a nice long post about that to someone. I got my lib of that [censored].

I learned a lot from reading a A+ guide. Everything I know about hardware came from it (enough to build a computer) and I'm a mad DOS memory tweaker. Just because many of you take the damn cert just to pass a test and therefor learn almost nothing from it doesn't mean you should diss it. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,041 UGN Elite Poster | UGN Elite Poster Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,041 | I learned a lot from the A+. But now that I know that material and I see where it will get me, I think the cert itself is meaningless. What is A+ gonna get you in this world? THat's all I'm saying. The fact of the matter is that every IT worker must know the material it covers. It is like the equivilent of say a cook knowing how to turn on the stove.
A+ is nothing more than the very basics that every IT worker should know. There is nothing complicated in it, nor is there anything that will earn you a whopping $200,000 a year.
