Blackjack is based off of a mathimatical formula. How I go about it, 18+ stay. How most others play, 16+ stay...

Nono...He means counting cards in a deck to figure out the probablity of a card that he wants showing up. Meaning, if he has a 13, but most face cards have already been dealt, he can assume that it's safe to 'hit,' and so on.

I know what he ment, i was giving up how I normally play...

See, if you look at a deck there are 3 face cards and one ace per suit, and there are 4 suits. Ace counts as 11 or 1, so you only have to worry about it if you have another face card.

You take into concideration what everyone else is delt, as their face up card, then you take the number of people you're playing against, including the dealer, and assign the probibility of what cards they hold...

Yeh yeh ::brushes wrist::

when you play at a casino they usually mix several decks together, maybe 5 or 6, to eliminate the ability of people to actually count cards. the best you can do is take a guess with that many cards in the deck.

Not to mention each deck is only used once. Then they usaly punch a hole through it so they know not to use it again, take it to the gift shop and seel it to tourists as a keep sake of thier trip.

To count trough 5 to 6 decks (not knowing exactly haw many is damn near impossible)

When playing with friends though

Okay there are 52 cards in a deck.

Any decent spades player knows 13 per suit.

Sooo all you have to do is chill a couple hands. Pay attention to cards and thier suits. You will not be 100% sure of the people who fold but if you play the game enough you will be able to closely guess what they had.

Keep a running list in your head

how many kings have come out?
how many queens
howmany jacks and 10's
how many black jacks

If you are shuffleing after every hand, pay attention to ever crease and nick in your cards. Rember the important cards and how the back looks. Hell bend a few(oops sorry guys I got carried away)

Play spade with partners often you will be able to count cards in your sleep. the whole game is based on counting cards and reading your team mate and the other players faces.

Same thing with Bridge. I've never played spades, but apparently it's somewhat similar. You just have to pay attention to what cards are out. If three kings have come out already, it's probably safe to say that if you hit, you won't get a King. There's a chance, but it's unlikely. There's no strategy to counting cards other than paying attention to what's out and calculating probabilities.

there was a {few kids} from MIT who counted cards rather well, their method is amazing.

if you want the basics of card counting go {here} but it all comes down to your skills. the better you get, the better the chance of you walking away with $$$$
