Thats a great looking heat sink, are you going to be running in 32 or 64 bit mode?

Also, thats the first motherboard I've ever seen that has a standard led just soldered right onto the board (asides from the Dreamcast)

SK8N motherboard meh heh not my choice of motherboard but hey you get what you can get. How much did this cost? heh pricewatch? I'd say ruffly guessing maybe 600-800 if you got the wobble connections, and such. I'd be interested to know.

list price for the 800 series opteron is around $2500

4 sticks of low level registered ddr333 are usually about $350 a stick (1gb)

dude. you can run your operating system from a ramdrive. talk about speed. Put that memory to use.

I thought I had a lot with my 1.5 gig ram.

list price is without a doubt like buying from 50 hands. bulk price places, that sell at a lowered cost seem to be a better choice to me.

the 146, and 846 have differences. But I'd like to know what you paid, and why you'd pay 2100 more dollars for a 846?

246 is cool too, but the difference in models is small imo, heh. I'd like to know why you chose the 846. But like I said before ruffly guessing. Now I'm researching, which is not productive. It's for others. I lack current funds.

$122 ddr400mhz ram, aka pc3200 1 gig, that's per stick. $488 total vs $1400 but of course it is registered. $127 for AIB the same.

A search on Opteron 248 shows two processors one going for 989, one for 1062, one company in Georgia, one in Indiana. The model changes to me don't look to be a big WOW, being that we've crossed the ghz barrier, and in 92 I had a 486/dx2/66mhz. It's like hmm 10.5x about in 8 or so years. I'm impressed:| The fact in my mind is hardware is hardware, unless your a company/industry. But I would like to know why you chose the 846, and spent more on registered ram.

meh, about 50 dollars off, and kingston. But about the only difference in generic, and registered is price. Kinda like I'd rather build a lunchbox laptop with 15" lcd, and AT compatible rack(you can instert a atx or whatever if AT's go extinct, and a atx power supply.), to not have to deal with industry bullshit. But I'll take the expense, till I find one. No need to pay alot for higher priced "ECC", which registered always is, the progressive loss that unregistered ram gives is do to the memory controller. I personally don't think that loss is worth the bundles of dough.

AMD made their 64 bit processor, to be able to handle more then 4gigs ram beside it, if it's 1gig of unregistered there is loss in speed/such. If it's 4gigs a little more. But nothing a Operating system will read as extra ram used. That small percentage you could only see with a hardware diagnostics tool. Which I'm guessing not many of us here own.
