That means I won't be able to host the IRC for a few days perhaps as long as a week, perhaps longer. Depends on how quickly I get a cable connection setup at the other location.
Gizmo can do whatever he wants, or nothing, about that. But during my downtime I need somebody to host a itty bitty site for me. I'm going to have my domain serialcoders.sytes.net point to your computer. If you already host a site, you're going to have to switch to the use of Virtual Hosts if you haven't already. If you don't already have a site, I can probably write up a quick webserver specific to my needs, which you leave running for awhile on your computer. Basically, I need a site that has a 404 error page that says my site will be down for a little while. If you host other sites, you may of course use my traffic to your advantage and provide a link to your own site. I've got loads of crawlers that I'm sure would be dying to crawl from my site to yours.
Only requirement is that I know you - very well, and approve of you based on how I know you. So you'd probably have to be an IRC frequenter. Somebody like unreal, sin, infinite, pergesu, Gizmo, jonconley, and possibly more all meet up to my requirements. Let me know in the IRC if you are willing to be a temporary host. | | |

We got the webserver all set up, so that won't be an issue. I can't host the IRC server, though, so if somebody with a reliable connection and SR's confidence is able to, speak up some time. | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 624 UGN GFX Whore | UGN GFX Whore Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 624 | that great perg, i wish i could host the IRC server, i just don't know what's needed for something like that coz i never hosted an IRC server before ...

He has control over the domain and what IP it points to. He also has the authority to let a specific user have the config files (and all those passwords which may be a security hazard under the wrong person) OR it is strictly on a temporary basis in which registered nicks and channels will not be transferred to the temporary host. To reiterate, here's Gizmo's options: 1) Say "[censored] it" and let people do what they want until I am back up (like meeting on a public server) 2) Point the irc. UnderGroundNews.com domain to somebody else who is willing to host a temporary server. However, he will not have the config files. 3) Hand over both config files and domain IP to somebody temporarily 4) Hand over both config files and domain IP to somebody permenantly. I personally prefer option 1 or 2. But again, it is up to Gizmo to decide. And to back pergesu up, yes, he is now my official hold-over guy. When the time comes I'll point serialcoders.sytes.net to his server and everything is go for that domain. Gizmo may choose to make his choice in this thread, so I would appreciate it if it stayed open. | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 Community Owner | Community Owner Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 | 1.
Sam and I will have a place in 2 weeks so we'll be "linking" two connections most likely.
But until rage gets back, and mails me his new ip, IRC operations will be dead...
