I want to view the current running connections of my pc, so how?

Personally, the best way is to use a firewall software which has a "Net State" function that can show the currently active connections and the details of these connections, including Remote Address/Port, Local Application/Port, Protocol and Status.
Why not try Armor2net Personal Firewall ? I know it has that feature.

how about a simple netstat -a at the command prompt ?

Heh, now that i think about it, i guess the answer to this question could be thought of in different ways. First i thought you wanted to view physical connections, but who wants to do that...

netstat -a would be the easiest way to view TCP connections, and UDP ports you're listening on.
