I know that there are many programs out there, as I have searched google. But if anyone knows of free software or tips were I could find free software then could you please point me in the right direction.
NOTE: If there is a windows based way of doing this then I would prefer it.

If you lose the password, you cannot open or gain access to the password-protected document.
Open the file. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Security. Do one of the following: Create a password to open
In the Password to open box, type a password, and then click OK. In the Reenter password to open box, type the password again, and then click OK. Create a password to modify
In the Password to modify box, type a password, and then click OK. In the Reenter password to modify box, type the password again, and then click OK.
Also, if you're using the NTFS file system there is a way, through windows, to encrypt files. | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 478 UGN Member | UGN Member Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 478 | Thats the one...but what about for the folders...Is there anything that you would recommend Gizmo? | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 Community Owner | Community Owner Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 | I used to use this program called Bestcrypt which I think the dev site is http://www.jetico.com or something... It was pretty nice heh... | | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 217 Member | Member Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 217 | Well there is another way i dont know if this will work in xp but it works in 98. What you have to do is :> open Ms-dos and go to the dir you want. :> Then type MD specialfolder Then your done! Then in windows when you try and open it you get an error due to the ! However if you want to get in you need to remember what keys you pressed to get the symbol. Also if you want to delete it you will have to type DELTREE instead of del. thats it. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 524 Member | Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 524 | Yeah, that doesen't work in any Windows OS above 98SE. And obviously you have to use DELTREE since it's a folder. | | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 217 Member | Member Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 217 | wow ok! Hey he didn't say what OS he is using and if he is using win 98 it would help him and why don't you give us another solution, instead of pointing out the obvious. | | | | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 616 UGN Super Poster | UGN Super Poster Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 616 | if you don't mind the government having a backdoor into your encryption, PGP, aka pretty good privacy works. There is a free version of it even:) You can make a drive with free space to have your stuff there, or you can encryption files/folders separately;/

I protected another word document making a new password and know I dont know what it is. The doc is important (hence I pwl protected it) and I carnt crack the encryption. You said that if you loose/forget it then you can not open it.
Is there someone that does know how to break the encryption? | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 Community Owner | Community Owner Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 | Once again, STOP [censored] PASSWORD PROTECTING THEM... If they're that important, buy the [censored] password cracker, for you sadly it sounds worth it as you don't learn from prior mistakes... | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 478 UGN Member | UGN Member Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 478 | | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 478 UGN Member | UGN Member Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 478 | never mind, after searching I found a program (free) in google. | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 Community Owner | Community Owner Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 7,203 Likes: 11 | I believe in another thread on here that someone was asking for the exact same thing; sugguestion: Google.
