dvd rom error

My room mate has a hp laptop and it has a DVD rom, the problem with it is that it will not read cd�s, DVD�s play fine, but it will not read any data or music from cd�s. Any suggestions on what to do to help would be appreciated.

Try upgrading the firmware if you can.

Also it would help if you posted the system information, or atleast what type of DVD-rom it is smirk
