i used to use this command alot, but forgot it - the dos command to get an ip from a direct connection, and i havent been abel to find it in google i say this because im sure you will tell me to go there

...the 'long' lines must have been what they told you when u didnt give a valid parameter for netstat ...
eg : u write some thing like this :

>netstat -asdadas

and then it gives the syntax ....(how,what the parameters are)

'could' be that .

what about >ping (computor name), that gives you the ip no. or is this completly wrong?
Oh and a question: when I do >netstat -n, it comes up with all the usual stuff but what does it mean by STATE established and CLOSE_WAIT?

NETSTAT [-a] [-e] [-n] [-o] [-s] [-p proto] [-r] [interval]

-a Displays all connections and listening ports.
-e Displays Ethernet statistics. This may be combined with the -s
option.
-n Displays addresses and port numbers in numerical form.
-o Displays the owning process ID associated with each connection.
-p proto Shows connections for the protocol specified by proto; proto
may be any of: TCP, UDP, TCPv6, or UDPv6. If used with the -s
option to display per-protocol statistics, proto may be any of:
IP, IPv6, ICMP, ICMPv6, TCP, TCPv6, UDP, or UDPv6.
-r Displays the routing table.
-s Displays per-protocol statistics. By default, statistics are
shown for IP, IPv6, ICMP, ICMPv6, TCP, TCPv6, UDP, and UDPv6;
the -p option may be used to specify a subset of the default.
interval Redisplays selected statistics, pausing interval seconds

tracert? or traceroute. By hops I'm thinking you mean trace routing over gateway to client connections, router to router, company to company from you to a said ip. Maybe, maybe not.
