Hi I'm on Dial-Up connection net and i was wondering if there was any way to get DSL Internet line without having to pay for it. I'm NOT saying illegally wink wink but i am offering a reward of working computer hardware and hardrives for any useful information on any ways to get me hooked up to DSL. I was told that i can set up a pirating signal to get hooked up but I'm not sure what that is. Its so i can play online and LAN games because Dial-Up just isn't cutting the cheese. Any help will be appreciated and rewarded Thanks.

What do you mean not illegally? Getting bandwidth that you're not paying for is called stealing and stealing is ILLEGAL. Also the phone company has to hook up a DSL circuit to you phone line to make it possible to use. So it isn't possible to just hook up a DSL modem to your phone line and get DSL bandwidth. If you want DSL you're going to have to pay for it.

Here are some DSL providers:

Verison
SBC
Earthlink

[censored] DSL!!!
Get cable, it's faster. If you want free internet to LAN with, find someone in your neighborhood wiht a wireless connnection. Buy an antenna and an amp for the signal. Then just 'hack' yourself a password and username, log on to the netowrk, and you will be moving at at least DSL speeds, which is about 600Kbps.

One thing I forgot to add was that I hacked my cable modem at got it up to 2.6 Mbps! Beat that with DSL.

wow pc_phreak no one cares. I highly doubt that you have the inteligence required to uncap your modem from the other posts you have made on this board.

well i do have the intelligence, all you have to do is change a few registry keys
Posted By: Defcon Re: DSL Net Line. - 01/09/04 03:58 AM
um hate to tell you chico, but by dicking with registry keys you just increased the speed from your nic to the cable modem... insignificant... since in all common sense dicking with registry will not affect the the cable modem... so you still will have the same speed that the cable modem and the cable itself is giving you... in short you're just fooling yourself and too stupid to realize what is exactly going on... douche

Pc_Phreak.....Just so you know...The only way to uncap new Cable modems is to do it from the server side. They cap it by the lines now. With old cable modems such as the Motorola surfboard modem. You were able to flash the firmware inside the modem with an edited version and get uncapped speeds.

Now, MicroUser. No there is no way to get DSL to your house free. Unless someone next to you has a wireless router hooked up to their dsl line and you can grab the signal.

You cannot do this because. Your line has to be setup for dsl provisioning is done by an independent company in most cases. Second, whatever company they provision you for, you have to have a username associated with that company. Third, not all but a lot of times a technician has to come out there to wire your line correctly from what they call at work "The Pedestal" to your NID or some call it your transfer box.

P.S. I work for tier 3 technical support for a very large ISP. So I'm not pulling this out of my [censored].

Actually, not true guys...

1. PC to Router/Modem:
The software that you install to setup your service limits the speed that your pc can speak to the modem through the NIC. (hit right on the head).

2. Modem to Provider:
The majority of modems use flash so that they can update the settings (some do it nightly) in case there are any updates they can just send them out without having to mess with service. This also limits your speed (hence you tend to have the same thing as business dsl).

3. Provider:
Your provider can limit the speed pumped to your line in the first place, notice how they have 30 differant plan's... They send the signal faster generally to ensure you have what they say you'll have, but #2 tends to deminish this.

UPIN did a lot of research with @HOME for cable and VERIZON for DSL; we actually made friends with some of the employees to get some information.

BTW, not all use usernames, some go off of the NIC on your computer's serial number for tracking, I just cloned a fake one with my router smirk...

Gizmo, I have never seen software that limits the speed that your computer talks to your modem. With my cable modem I installed no software and don't get any higher speeds. With our DSL service no matter if you install using the included 2 cd's or do it all manually with no software at all, the speeds are the same.

I know my cable company authencates my speed by my modems serial number and location.
With our DSL service its all done with usernames. The lines are all provisioned the same and the speed caps are done on the usernames. But if the great gizmo says thats the way some are, the ninja will accept that as a viable option and humbly apolgize for my error.

Shinobi, you obviously never had @home; main reason I never let them set [censored] up...

When I allowed @home to install my service on one of my PC's, the bandwidth I'd download at was at 50k at max (from an OC line), when I formatted and tried the same system, it downloaded at 150k from the same server.

With Verizon we never had a username, they just authenticated us via the serial number.

A lot USED *USED* to do it as mentioned above, they may have changed (i've only been without DSL for 6 months).

The anarchy forum was itching towards the side of illegal activity. We removed it for legality issues, it was WAY more trouble than what it was worth. You can still find texts in the archive.
