Web Services Choreography Description Language version 1.0 (abbreviated 'WS-CDL 1')- a standard to orchestrate peer-to-peer collaboration - has been completed by The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

The new standard is endorsed by companies such as BEA Systems, Apple Computer, Cisco Systems and Computer Associates. Major players Microsoft and IBM have authored their own specification called Business Process Execution Language (BPEL).

Analysts have praised both specifications but they work in fundamentally different ways. Their segment, web services, is often quoted as a "sky is the limit" multi-billion-dollar one. WS-CDL is XML-based and supports SOAP.
