This week a new software tool will be launched by Network security company Palisade Systems. The tool which was created by software firm Audible Magic has been praised by the RIAA.

Palisade's version will sit inside a network (such as in a uni), it will look inside students' emails, instant messages and p2p transfers for audio 'fingerprints' that will be matched with a database. If a match is found, the transfer will be seized.

The RIAA say that if the technology was built into file-trading programs such as Kazaa or Morpheus, it could greatly decrease the amount of illegal trades. File-swapping companies argue "this is impractical or even impossible."

This is a total invasion of privacy! I mean really what a load of crap. Just allowing some third party company to read through everyone on it's networks e-mail, and instant messaging. I'm sorry not read "look for finger print" God I hate the governement

Agreed, it is an invasion of privacy, but after awhile you do get used to seeing crap like this come out of the RIAA. Besides the software is completely worthless. No p2p network is going to integrate it without a federal mandate, and they're pressuring the feds, to get rid of this stuff, just as much as the RIAA or the MPAA is pressuring them to implement it. Besides even if they did merge the software with Kazaa or Morpheous, somebody would hack the new version within a couple of weeks, and produce Kazaa Ultra-Lite (or is that already out? I dunno, I don't use Kazaa) for us all :p probably Kazaa programmers incognito.

Besides that there's bound to be all manner of gaping holes in something like that. My prediction: this software is just another failed attack at p2p, waiting to flop. Just wait and watch every filesharing hacker laugh their *** off.

I know what you mean. And one of the best P2P tools out there runs like a "Kazaa Ultra-Lite" as you said. It is a hacked version of Kazaa Lite called Kazaa Lite K++ version. Now if you have't heard about this it is like a free version of Kazaa Lite (so you don't have ads) and some IP Blocking tools and stuff like that. Basically it sets up to provide minimum exposure of your PC to the P2p. Anyway check that one out man.
