Einstein Satellite Successfully Launched - 04/22/04 12:35 AM
NASA has successfully launched the Gravity Probe B satellite yesterday, following the launch being delayed on Monday (SN reported). The satellite is designed to test two of Einstein's theories about time and space.
The Probe was launched from the Vandenburg Air Force Base and will be orbiting Earth for 18 months. The satellite has been 45 years in the making and has so far cost US$750 million to build.
The Gravity Probe B has been the longest development project in NASA's history, with development starting in 1959, a year after NASA's establishment. It is widely expected that the Probe's mission will prove Einstein right.
