This is a relatively basic design that I threw together this evening between feedings... Let me know what you think; what do you like? what don't you like? Would you like to suckle my nipple?

Spherix.org

Ya know, I still have no idea what the hell I'm going to do with this site...
Posted By: Skull Re: Opinions on Site Design - 07/25/05 12:42 AM
Why are you desiging it it then? Just for the fun of it?
Posted By: UndeadBob Re: Opinions on Site Design - 07/25/05 07:14 AM
it isn't bad... try putting about 2-3 more pixels padding abournd the page title (The Spherix Organization). You could try messing around with pure css layouts rather than tables etc. I love them. It allows you to build simple pages that can be viewed on many systems.

I recently built a blog with css layouts i can view it on my mobile phone and palmtop without having to alter any setting on the phone or palm....

what about a pay for lead site lead. Here is the deal, all forms of business can sign up, you network them together to generate leads for each other. I have recently found the net is the perfect medium for this if there is a human behind it. For example, apluschimney.com and agentforthepeople.com 2 of my clients.

agentforthepeople.com could easily have a "tips after buying" and/or "tips before selling" page. In it could say, "Be sure to get cimney swept, inspected bla bla bla."

Now this is 2 businesses that normaly would not run in the same circle. But with some creative thinking....

You can be the glue that binds. Why do I think Spherix.org would be good for that?

Spher...

Round, what goes around comes around. Complete circle of lead generating services. It is an idea.

I like the design. Simple still but I am sure it will change as content comes in.

Mere shits and giggles... That and eventually I'd want to do SOMETHING with it, may as well try to pound out a template...

I don't know of many modern browsers which cannot handle table layouts, additionally I WOULD make a pure CSS/Div layout however I am not that good with them yet wink ...

Sintax, intregueing idea; return my damned call and we can talk about it wink ...

Well, IceMyst said "Well, I can't really give a review unless I knew what type of service would be offered"; I guess we could just state the route of a Security Portal; but with Learners sugguestion I'm not sure lol...

Well think about it. How sucessful is google ad sense? Now you know those are ads right? What if you were the ad firm? The ads were much more sublte. All customers would be glad to run your ads on thier site if they were more subtle and they were them selves getting leads. Then later you can allow people to sing up just to run ads. The thing is, You would have to do all the thinking. I do not think you could have a computer automate this. It could get a bit to deal with after say 100 customers.

I see it like this.

Customer signs up for 6 months or 1 year for $300. They agree to put a PHP include page or a frame page up to get the artildles from you. This page has to be in the navigation system. You get a whole page. You match thier design template fo this one page and in your MySQL database is the articles with thier login info
Code

table 1
==========
Login varchar(50)
passwd_md5_encrypted varchar (50)
URL_to_sites_main_page varchar (255)
URL_to_sperix_articles_on_site varchar (255)
email_used_to_confirm_account varchar (255)
ip_used_to_open_account varchar (255)
tims_stmp_of_date_opened varchar(100)
id primary key not, null, auto increment int(6)

table 2
===========
Article_head_line varchar (200)
article text
account_num id(6) //same as id above
account_name varchar(50) //same as login above
views varchar(11) //each time page is viewed increment 1
click_link_1 int(11) //count clicks
click_link_2 int(11) //
click_link_3 int(11) //
click_link_4 int(11) //
ip_log_1 varchar(20) //catch ip's on click
ip_log_2 varchar(20) //
ip_log_3 varchar(20) //
ip_log_4 varchar(20) //
id int(11) not null auto increment primary key
hmmm, this could really work. You over time will have articles with 4 max links in them maybe more, that is your call. Someone has to write the articles though...

Well Learner, as I told you before, I have a shitload of domain names that all have huge potential; if you or anyone would like to help me I'd be more than willing to split any proffits...

lol I have a full plate already. Remember I am working on another project with you currently. BTW
anyone intrested in biding on development work? Lowest bidder gets the job sort of thing? Giz I could build you an engine for this. I will have more work than I know what to do with here soon. Much of it will be simple pages.

how things have changed.
from ms starting out in a garage, to the concept of synergy discussed on the UGN boards...

amazing.
nice ideas sintax.

id love to be a part of something with this much potential, but i fear i lack the skills.
my greatest programming mileston to date is a 'Hello World' program witten in delphi :p
*snigger*

but if anyone needs articles written, research to be done or someone to proofread, id be more than willing to contribute my time and energy.
god knows the only thing i do online is visit the UGN site or the irc network.

Yeh I know we have a couple of projects so far wink ... Not like I need something right now, it can wait hehe...

The thing with having someone else do something with me is that I only really trust 3 people that I know could get something done... Ghost, Sintax, and Neo lol...
Posted By: EndGame Re: Opinions on Site Design - 07/26/05 02:11 PM
why not put up a test on the site then.
one for the programmers and developers.
and another for people to contribute to the task at hand via other means/expertise. (for eg. getting clients to join, kinda like sales)

and then u can sift through the competent and the lurkers

just a suggestion

Well, I downloaded a Quiz PHP script the other day that I was kind of getting into; and I thought of putting it up somewhere but couldn't for the life of me think of where to put it... I could probably do that, but I'd need people to come up with tests and [censored]...

:eager nod:
awesome.
just expand on what exactly u want in regards to 'the tests and [censored]' and il do it (if its within my capabilities).
if not, il find someone who can.

:thinks of ways to rope sintax into this :p :

Basically a Q&A type thing to test one's knowledge; kinda like BrainBench lol...

I'll tinker around with it sometime this week if I can get some time
Posted By: EndGame Re: Opinions on Site Design - 07/26/05 07:20 PM
*grin*
il try and put together a 'life-experience-resume-other than programming skills-blah-blah-blah' type quiz and send it ur way.

best start somewhere.

Was thinking more technology relative wink
Posted By: §intå× Re: Opinions on Site Design - 07/26/05 10:21 PM
That would be great! Tie it in with the board. Have an addtional ranking system on the board. Use the same register form and cookies to take the tests. Something like oh I don't know, "feathers in my cap". You could easily do a "HTML test", or HTML 4.0, 3.1 blah blah blah. Or Mark up language evaluation. Then test for various HTML, XHTML, XML knowledge.

JavaScript, perl, Java, C, C++, Python, GTK-PHP, TKL, RUBY, Delphi, CSS, CSS2, bash, Unix, Apache, Apache Mods.

And might I sugest keep track of the number of times it took to pass.

The test should be easy. I have an idea to randomize the questions.

You create 10 questions for each number. eg
in the database there arre 4 colums
1.) question text
2.) answer text
3.) question_num int
4.) primary key ID int

So they are on question 1 it grabs all database entries where question_num = '1'. Then do a random int function from (primary key id[0]) to (primary key id[9]). That gives you a random value from 1 to 10 or what even the rest are. This should limit some cheating because the test is not the same each time.

I think you could creat a new section on the main page for this. I love the idea and would take the test in a heart beat. OOOhhh pick me pick me to be the first to take the test.
Posted By: Gremelin Re: Opinions on Site Design - 07/26/05 11:02 PM
Rofl... It's guarenteed that we will, eventually, have this system in place; though i'm not sure if it'd be just a site feature here or through one of my many other sites and just linked to from here...

Time will decide; that and the willingness of people to help create tests.

BTW, they are all multi choice, so i'll need real and fake answers wink

I should be able to help with html, php4, mysql, unix, linux, solaris, windows, DOS, TCP/IP, OSI modle, Frame Relay, ATM, SMDS, TLS(up and coming all fiber fast packet data service from Telco's), SSI, CSS, CSS2.

Might I sugest PHP be broke up into several tests.

PHP images
PHP SWF files on the fly
PHP Databases
PHP PDF files on the fly
PHP OOP
PHP functions

Each oth these could easily give 10 questions and are definite section in of them selves.

Pass all and you are PHP guru.
Half or more but not all PHP tech,
1 PHP developer.
