I recently downloaded my copy of America's Army game, played a few times, not bad, but then it I had a thought. What has the army come to, their recent boost in trying to get more drafts disgusts me. You see those TV ads, my god you'd think it was some kinda movie. And awhile back they started showing that "Reality show" on goarmy.com. Ugh. Now they target people with video games? You should see the game, it's full of subliminal messages, and everywhere is a link to goarmy.com. Has our own army been corporatized? Who owns the army now? GE? Mcdonalds??? Seems like everything these days is being corporatized and honestly its starting to sicken me. I wouldnt be suprised if they started doing AUDITIONS instead of drafts.

"Oh sure, we have soo much money piling up here, thanks to Mr. Bush, who needs good schools anyway? PFFT, Asbestoes? Tell em kids to join the army, that'll fix 'em right up. We have too much money here, maybe we should make a video game? Maybe a TV show? We've overpowered every other country who NEEDS real soldiers anyway??"

Sorry if I've offended anyone, but thats my 2 cents.

Governements have been doing that kind of [censored] since the 50s to get more people involved in internal affairs. Its easy and well attracting marketing.

Quite clever actually.

Oh who gives a flying [censored] if the Army wants to try to get people to enlist by putting out this sort of thing? Personally, I think it's a damn good idea.

I really wanna go but it seems like they ecourage us to go die, lol. All these ads etc about it is rather dumb i think.

i think we should support the thinning out of our population anyways. ha

You guys allways have something to [censored] about... Sure it is to get you to Join. (Hasn't been a draft since vietnam <img border="0" alt="[Laugh]" title="" src="graemlins/laugh.gif" /> ) The Army is redefining it's image. I mean if the old 80 commercials were still on

"Be... All that you can be.... Get an edge on life... In the Arrrrrmmyyy!" You would say that was lame. Recruiters are given X number of dollars a month to treat new recruits. They take you to eat, get pills to pass drug tests. laugh and various other crap.

Their new comercials have the "MTV" feel to them cause the MTV generation is coming into power in the Army. Heh even their new Work out uniforms are new age.

No corperation owns the army. As a matter of fact they are less dependant on civilans now than they ever have been. They built their own webpage. (I knew one of guys in charge of that) now they built this game. The army did. Not some outside company.

I mean think about it. They just gave you something for free hoping you will say, the army don't look that bad. What is wrong with that?

I know more than one recruiter that got his boy the stuff to pass him.

The usual bitching process here on UGN:

<Person 1> I think that the government is doing this just to protect the corporations that fund them during elections..blah blah blah...

<Person 2> Yeah! [censored] the government!

<Person 3> Well said!

<Person 4> I totally agree!

I know this is off-topic from the original post, but this is something that I've noticed more and more. One person goes off on a rant about something, and most follow-up posts agree with the first post, regardless of how irrational or stupid it is. What ever happened to the Devil's Advocate side of things? Seems to me that there are very few who will challenge rants/raves/angry spiels on this board...

Now that I've said this, don't everyone start agreeing with me all of a sudden. wink

EDIT: Just to add something real quick: one of my best friends joined the Navy a couple weeks ago, and will be shipping off to Basic here in October. It really irritates me when someone starts bitching about recruiting campaigns such as this. Serving ones country, in my opinion, would be one of the most honorable things you could do.

The millitary realy isn't that bad guys. I mean unless partying all the time, getting laid left and right, and blowing [censored] up is just awful for you. I guess then it could suck real bad.

I wouldn't be where I am without the U.S. Army. I partyed for four years (Don't get me wrong, I busted my [censored] too.) got out and landed a job making fat bank.

People I know who spent 6 years in collage don't make what I do. Yea army sucks! Whatever...

Okay I just played the game for the first time. It is about as close to Army life as you will get without being in the army. Excelent game.

hehe if you shoot the commander guy, he yells "sieze fire! sieze fire!" and then you end up in a jail cell... nice touch lol

The siting on the range is pretty accurate to a real M-16 or M-4 assulat rifle. The further the target the higher you have to aim. Also the closer the lower. I rember aiming almost at the dirt and hitting the close target every time.

Well, I don't agree with Learner and unreal in taking the side of the army. I'm Canadian, so the propoganda (which is exactly what that is), isn't as prominant here. Although we do have TV and movie AD's for the army and I have played that game. I don't agree with many things both the Canadian and US Army do because I'm quite against violence to solve problems. Yes, we have to defend ourselves, but we take it too far. I would never join the Army unless it was quite necessary (WWII). The propoganda of the army will always be there, I just choose to ignore it at times.

personally i just wish the army wouldnt mess with vedio games. Vedio games are a way to escaspe from the world . Not be introduced to the more brutal side of reality

ok, that may be true for you, but not for me.
