Hello everyone. I just wanted to say hello. I am a novice programmer at best and certainly no hacker. I have no plans of becoming hackerjoe. However I do have plans on becoming one hell of a php man with proficiency in perl.

With that in mind I just wanted to say hi and will most likely be found trolling the programming section of the boards.

The programming sections are hardly active; no good questions lately ...

Now this is something I have given a bit of time to actually. I was considering building a phpMyAdmin desktop solution. Imagine not haveing to open a browser, login to phpMyAdmin blah blah blah

Or a server control panel. This would be perfect for virtual hosting. Lock the server down tight accept for this app you give to your clients that has FTP and all admin functions built in. It have the SSH key bundled in the package and is obfucated

PHP is good as a language but I find its strongest asset is it's ability to play nice with other solutions. I can extend the capabilities of soo many things with using the power of PHP to work with these other apps. Like MySQL, GTK.

What are you hoping to do with PHP? At least to start? If you want to start with PHP/MySQL I recomend coding a search engine first. It really isn't too hard, but when you are done what you will understand is 1,000 times more than before you start. If you get it done you hold a strong understanding of the many function in typical applications.

Thank you for the links! I like your idea about a search engine. I am going to create a lead database. It allows potential customers to login view leads and purchase them if they want. It will keep track of all leads purchased and account balances. At the same time it will allow them to return a lead they find to be bad for a credit. Thats the front end for the buyers.

The otherside will be the gathering of leads via form submissions. I plan on driving the business via pay per click submission.

Well at least thats the plan. I think it can be all be done with php and mysql.

However I will probably start with your idea of a search engine before I begin my project. Cant do anything but help!
