btw: if a network has got automatic ip adresses, how the hell do i do to get the ip adress that windows generated? is there a way or not?

That should at least get you started.

And as for your automatic IP address, what that's called is DHCP, and windows doesn't generate it. A sever on the network tells your computer what ip address it is. If you're interested, go here:
http://www.dhcp.org/

As for seeing it, sure. In win2k/xp from the command line type in "ipconfig" and it will display your current ip info.

and Nagachaak i'd suggest you read a bit more about IP addresses, it's pretty interesting and cool. If you can't find any help just contact me and i'll help you out. btw very nice links Inf.

oh yes and Nagachaak, about the comps ip adds i suggest you download the program IP TOOLS from the main UGN home page, it has a good scanner so you just scan the host range of your network address and you'll get the infos you want, I think that's the easiet way for you.
